My perscription bottle says nothing about not drinking alcohol while taking Ciprofloxacin, which I found kind of strange. If there is no warning either someone made a mistake or it can't be that bad to drink while on it. IMO

Ditto what Don P said. There's nothing on the bottle or accompanying literature that even mentions alcohol. I have had prescriptions for other medications in that past where alcohol has been strictly contraindicated. I think that mainly applies to old-school antibiotics like tetracycline.

Ciprofloxacin does not significantly affect the pharmacokinetics or psychomotor performance observed with alcohol alone.

Cipro is an antibiotic. You should not drink alcoholic drinks while taking antibiotics.

Dr Karl had the answer to this on his radio show several months ago.
Summary: The prohibition on alcohol when taking antibiotics is so that you won't become dis-inhibited and 1. forget to take the whole course and 2. go back to the behaviour that gave you the illness to begin with.

Antibiotics were used for a wide range of infections from near the end of WWII. The biggest problems were venereal diseases. It is thought that the alcohol ban was a method of ensuring that the antibiotics had the best chance of being used correctly and curing you for good and so that you stayed away from the bar where you picked up the disease.

It still makes sense to limit alcohol when you are feeling less than 100% as the effects might be greater than normal.

Basically, you should not, but not for the reasons you may think. Alcohol does weaken your immune system and can slow your recovery time, but there is no particular problem with a combination of Cipro and alcohol. That said, you will probably recover more quickly without alcohol. Party up when you get well for a celebration.
