Certain antibiotics can interact with birth control pills, making the birth control pills less effective and pregnancy more likely. Spotting - or ‘mid-cycle’ bleeding - may be the first sign that an antibiotic is interfering with the effectiveness of your birth control pills.
Antibiotics that have been shown to interact with birth control pills include rifampin (brand name Rifadin), and to a lesser extent, penicillin (Veetids), amoxicillin (Amoxil), ampicillin (Omnipen), sulfamethoxazole/trimethoprim (Septra or Bactrim), tetracycline (Sumycin), minocycline (Minocin), METRONIDAZOLE (Flagyl), and nitrofurantoin (Macrobid or Macrodantin).

metronidazole is a broad-spectrum anitbiotic. it should not affect the contraceptive pill which is hormone based, but if you are worried use a condom too (never a bad idea).
she can drink alcohol when the antibiotic course is finished, but makes sure she completes it :)

Just as the first person said, the medication Metronidazole, or Flagyl, will most likely not interfere with the birth control pill's desired effect. However you may want to consider what is being treated by this drug and may want to avoid intercourse for a while anyway.

Alcohol should definitely not be consumed while on this drug and not for a day or two after the prescription is done. Abdominal cramps, nausea, vomiting, headaches, and flushing may occur if she drinks during or the day after finishing.

yes metronidazole can effect her birth control. Make sure you use back up protection.ABSOLUTELY DO NOT LET HER DRINK ALCOHOL WHILE ON THIS MEDICATION!!!!!
I would wait at least a day after she finishes before she drinks any so the med won't have any reaction.

it depends (about the alcohol), is she taking the pill form or the vaginal cream form?

if she is taking the pill form then she needs to stay away from the booze, the vaginal cream is less likely to mess up her stomach, however if she cant go 3 days w/o alcohol wouldnt you say she has a problem?

and yes, metronidazole is considered an antibiotic and she should use a back up method of birth control until her next period.

The effectiveness will be reduced, but only very slightly. I'd give it a few days after treatment for the booze. The Antabuse-like reaction only occurs in about 10% of people, but when it does, you puke up your toenails. Not pleasant.
