Can't decide what car to get for the summer!!!!!!!!!!!?

I hear all the time that american cars suck while japanese cars like honda and toyota are more reliable and don't mess up as often. Well I was looking at an ad about a 1994 BMW 325. Are german cars reliable and need less maintenance. I need help!!!!!!!!!

Absolutely not. Unreliable and really expensive parts. I love honda, just put a good security system in it. :)

It is an old car, so if it has any problems it will cost a lot to fix them. German parts are verrry expensive. Go for a Toyota Solara, beautiful car with great MPG!!

okay, what you need to do is not look for a cool car. with gas prices now a days you need to look for a fuel iffecient car and one that looks okay. what i would say is a toyota a white normal sized car. thats below lets say 16 grand and has good milage and fuel iffeciency becuase you rather have a good, reliable, cheap, trustworthy car rather than a huge truck thats a gas guzzler right?

German cars do have a rep for being reliable. However at the same time it depends on who owns the car before you buy it. You never really know if they kept the oiled changed etc. You know what they tell you. With gas as high as it is you need to get a vehicle that gets good gas mileage. A car 14 or 15 yrs old, your bound to sink some $$$ in it soon for maintenance. Face the Facts.

BMW is a very reliable car, and holds it resale value well. Or you could consider a fuel efficient car such as a Honda Accord, or a Volkwagen Bug. Good luck!

Forget a car, you might have to get a bike. Gas prices the way they are, your car will become a huge paper weight on the lawn.

I'd been buying honda for about 15 years and loved them. Then came back to the US and bought a Honda Pilot (assembled in North America) and it was a pile of rubbish.

Had a problem with the parking lock that resulted in the car rolling out of the garage and damaging the drivers door which was open. Honda issued a recall on Accords for the same problem, but refused to acknowledge it for the Pilot.

Transmission failed at 50k miles - out of warranty, but Honda dealership told me it was so common I got a complimentary replacement!!!! Nice customer service, but doesnt make up for crap quality.

So, outside US, I'd agree - Honda are great. But here, on the highly scientific basis of experience on 1 car, no way!!

Friend has a VW - assembled in Mexico I think? Reckons its not a patch on the german assembled ones he drove in Europe.

I've got a Dodge Durango now - its pretty clunky engineering, not very sophisticated, but then nor am I so I kinda like it!! :-) Apart from the gas mileage :-( but I knew that when i bought it..

Wife has a Mazda 3 and despite all our friends warning us off Mazda, its been awesome - put 50k on in 4 years and had no problems at all. And its fun to drive...Reckon my next car will be a Mazda too....

Yes some can be more reliable but so can American cars. Plus if you get a foreign car, there is no guarentee anyone can work on it here if something DOES happen. You should get a convertible. Its Summer. :)

My experience with a VW is that maintenance costs a bit more at the dealer once the free maintenance expires. I have a Dodge Caliber and love it with lots of room and good gas mileage(34.5 mpg in MD) but if you are just getting a car for the summer, I would suggest a Honda or toyota even though I despise toyotas. They take a beating on the engine and keep rolling.

DO NOT buy a 300 series BMW. They are poorly made and you will wind up dumping thousands of dollars on them to repair them.
I know this from hearing horror stories from friends who went the "cheap route" and got the 300 series.
Hondas are the best cars ever. Get a Civic Si.

A study on depreciation of cars resulted that cars like mazda and toyota have the lowest depreciation value which will help in the future for trade ins. Don't get american or brands like hyundai or dihatsu, as these are noted on the net for having the most car troubles. Nissans are good too. Probably recommend mazda, toyota or nissan. I personally hate fords, so i wouldn't reccommend them. Alternatively, you could get a european car like the german bmw. These are reliable and require less maintenance. The price, of these cars work out in the long run. As petrol in australia is becoming unaffordable it is economical to go with a small, affordable car. If this is your first or secong car you seem intent on getting a bmw which are a good brand of car. Hope this helps
