Buying empty land IN Rabat is going to be difficult and expensive. The building part is not so expensive. Labor here is cheap, materials are relatively cheap. If you are willing to try Sale you will probably have more options and it will be a small bit (as real estate in Sale is on the rise!) cheaper.
I can't put a dollar/dirham amount on it because you didn't say enough about what type of home you are looking to build (villa or house), the cost for land in a villa (villa's have yards) area verses house (houses are built on 100% of the land and touch the house next door;no yard) are going to be vastly different.

Paper-bird brother. You are actually incorrect to say that buying already built is cheaper and better. It isn't cheaper at all and rarely is unless you are comparing building a house in Agadir to buying a house somewhere in the bled lol! and of course that isn't a fair comparison. Right now building is simply cheaper. Having built several times I'm 100% sure of this. It is ALWAYS better in Morocco (at least currently) to buy land and build yourself.

Buying preexisting usually isn't 'better' either since floor plans here are only now becoming decent. There is often so much renovation that needs to be done with a preexisting unless it was built in the last few years, had a modern architect and clever owner.

As far as it being quicker...sure it would be BUT building is as quick as you have the cash. People take so long to build here because they are building little by little as they can afford to. If a person has the money to build start to finish it doesn't take an unreasonable amount of time.

Sis Egypt $10,000 in Morocco will get a person 40 sq. ft. in the country side :s This isn't Egypt sis, cost of living is much higher here than in Egypt.

    I can't estimate a number, but..trust me; buying an already-built house is better & cheaper....& also quicker !

You can at least find a house that has just been finished (costruction only), & you can later handle other things like paintings, doors & windows...Kitchen stuff & other decorations...

    Land here is so expensive.

I plan on doing the same thing in Rabat also, but not for another couple years...I'm interested to see what others have to say.

In the city it is going to be expensive. Outside of the city you may be able to find cheaper land upon which to build a house with between may be a 10-20 thousand dollars. but this would just be a simple basic home and then you can take your time and add on thngs as you go. But again the city is to expensive and i agree with the first answer in that it will be better just to buy a home already built.
