Personal statement for college help?

It isn't required but i had a bad year and want to explain. i really want to get into this college but im not really sure how to start out.

To Whom It May Concern,

Hello,my name is________,I have long admired this college,not only for it's wide array of educational opportunities,but also for it's_______.

That is why I am taking the time out to write you,and attempt to explain that while I may not look so good on "paper",I am a very motivated,driven student and would be so honored to attend your school.

Last year_____blah,blah,blah....go into explaining briefly why/what happened to you or whatever this situation was.
