The overall theme of Eclipse is an internal battle within Bella about making the choice between Jacob and Edward.

Generally put, it's having to decide between a future that fits you emotionally, and a future that fits you logically. Even though Bella loved both of them, her love for Edward was what Bella felt was right, whereas her love for Jacob would have made more sense logically - she wouldn't have to give up her life for him.
