Ear piercing question - please help.?

I want to have my ear lobe pierced but I want a hoop not a stud. I know that ears are normally pierced with a gun to insert the initial stud is it possible to have a hoop instead if I go to a body piercing salon.

Go to a proper piercing parlour and they should give you the choice between hoops and studs

ive had 6 ear piercings with needles, they heal better and are less painful, i had the choice out of the stud or hoop and ive had experience with both, i chose the hoop because i they take swelling better, but they're more annoying to clean if your a easy bleeder (like me)

hoops are slightly heavier too, they're also cheaper

Most professional piercers are going to recommend a straight barbell for initial jewelry. They are easier to clean and easier to heal with. Rings can cause a little irritation moving around a lot. But usually they'll warn you about that and let you get a ring nonetheless. Just depends on the place.

Yes. Most tattoo and piercing studios will offer a ring for thr initial piercing but the sizes may vary. At my studio, the smallest we pierce with is a 16 gauge and most earrings are anywhere from 19-22 guage. Hope this helps.

A stud is always used at first to ease pain and enhance healing, but as long as you clean it regularly you should be able to switch to a hoop within a few weeks.
