When going to canada do you half togo into a u.s.checkpoint or customs or just the canada side?

"Hi"...when you come to Canada either by sea air or land from the U.S. you "AUTOMATICALLY" visit , stop or are channelled to Canadian Customs ( and Immigration ) and have nothing to do with U.S. Customs.

Subsequently when you leave Canada for the return back home to the U.S. then you only check in with U.S. Customs.

One doesn't have to check with Customs when leaving a country but only the appropriate Customs when entering a country !

If you are coming from the US into Canada, you only go through Canadian Customs. The US has nothing to do with people entering into Canada. When leaving Canada you will then go through only US Customs.

When you go into Canada from the USA you will go through the Canadian customs and border services "check point".

On your way back to the USA you will go through the USA customs and border services "check point".

When you go into Canada, you are just waved through the US checkpoint and stop at the Canada side. On the return trip, you are waved through the Canadian customs and stop at the US checkpoint.

Canadian customs has a whole different scheme to it.

Although pretty soon both countries will have a common customs union (as well as with Mexico) and will abide by virtually the same rules.
