• Would you name your baby Twilight?

I've only seen my biological father a handful of times since I was a child. It was always his choice not to see me when I was kid, Mum would take me to him for visitation and give him money so we could do things and he'd pawn me off on the neighbors or his latest girlfriend's family so they could go out. As an adult, my sister reached out to him and he corresponded with her for a while. When I tried to do the same I was told that I wasn't worth his time. My very apparent disability is an embarrassment to him and he doesn't want people to know we're related. Now my sister is telling me he's got cancer and I'm sorry for him. I'm sorry that his wife is going to lose her husband, his parents are going to lose a child, his siblings a brother, his daughter a father and his granddaughter a granddaughter. His passing is going to affect quite a few people and for them I feel compassion and sympathy. When it comes to me, I don't really feel sorry that he'll not be around in my life considering that he chose not to be there when I was a child or when I reached out as an adult. It makes me wonder if there's something wrong or damaged about me that I don't feel any personal loss at the idea of his death.

I answered a rather patronizing question on YA in which a user stated that they felt a deep sorrow for anyone who "suffers" by being disabledand that was the reason they tried to help a disabled woman who didn't want assistance. I use a wheelchair daily and have encountered people who are determined to help me regardless of what I say or do and sometimes when I explain I don't need help or want help the person who is determined to help me gets mad. How does everyone else deal with this?

I was at the grocery store. I was waiting in line at the checkout and the woman behind me kept hitting my wheelchair with her cart because she insisted that I had room to move forward. I didn't move forward because there was a woman and a small child standing directly in front of me and I was afraid if I moved forward I might hit the child's legs with my wheelchair's foot rests because the foot rests stick out. So, I turned and asked the woman behind me to please stop hitting me because it hurt my back and to please be patient because I didn't want to risk moving and hitting anyone in front of me. A few minutes later, the child in the cart of the woman behind me started to climb around on the cart i could hear her mother tell her to stop moving. The child kicked me in the back.I ignored it but a few seconds later i heard the mother tell the child again to stop moving. I was kicked a few more times and then the child fell from the front of the cart and unfortunately injured herself by hitting the back of my chair. The mother started insisting it was my fault her child was hurt when she hit my chair. I told her that I was sorry the child was injured but I wasn't at fault. She was to blame for not stopping the child and for placing her cart so close to me that her child fell onto my chair. Am I wrong?

Her mother told her to stop staring and the other women with them, possibly a grandmother, told the child it was all right to stare at me because if disabled people didn't want to be stared at they wouldn't go out in public. I was so stunned at the woman's words that I didn't say anything just continued to drive away. However, I'm wondering if anyone has any advice regarding what I should have said if anything.
