• I think my professor might have an eating disorder and I’m worried about her. Should I do nothing?

I’m a second year university student and I am genuinely concerned about one of the professors I had this semester. I know it’s absolutely none of my business, but honestly, I have NEVER seen a woman so THIN before. She’s about 35 and is dangerously skinny. She doesn’t seem to have even one pound of fat on her. I know it’s absolutely none of my business, but honestly, I have NEVER seen a woman so THIN before. She’s about 35 and is dangerously skinny. She doesn’t seem to have even one pound of fat on her. She is a lovely professor and is very kind, intelligent and understanding. I am a female of normal weight, and her thigh is about the width of my arm. Her entire body is like a stick. Maybe it’s just her genetics or something - I don’t know. Should I remain silent? I know it’s definitely not my place to say anything but I’m actually worried.

I am a freshman in college right now. When I was a senior in high school, I wanted to major in business and create my own business after school. When I first got to college, I changed my mind to Biology Education (biology was my favorite class in high school). Then, last week, I changed my mind again to music education. I thought that one made more sense because I have been involved in music since 5th grade and have loved it. I got to thinking about it and I can't picture myself enjoying being a music teacher. I am not satisfied when I think about it. A LONG time ago, I thought about majoring in agricultural business/production. My grandparents own a farm, and are talking about moving into town. I was going to take over their farm. Should I reconsider that idea? I have no idea what to do... People say I have time to figure it out, but in reality I don't. I don't want to spend more time and money in college than I have to. Thanks in advance and sorry for the long description.

Best answer: No, not necessarily but that doesn't mean you have to continue.

Step #1: Get academic support NOW for your current classes. Join study groups. Go to your teachers' office hours. Hire a tutor. You want to get through this semester and get decent grades. You never know what you may want to do a few years down the line.

Step #2: Look into getting some psychological counseling if you think you are depressed. It is perfectly okay to just not like school, but some wording in your post suggests that you may be depressed. This is treatable, but it doesn't go away without treatment. If you need help, please get it.

Step #3: Talk to your academic advisor and consider withdrawing AFTER this term is over. There is no shame in taking time off from school. You may not be destined for college, or you may just need a little time to find your way.

Step #4. If you decided to take some time off, start looking for a full-time job during your Thanksgiving break. Even if it isn't your dream job, you need to do your best to work close to 40-hours a week. Not only with this give structure to your life and money in your pocket, but it may also give you a clearer idea of what you do and do not want to do for the rest of your life.

Step #5: When you have time, read some books and take some tests. There are all kinds of books (and audiobooks if you don't like to read) on how to find your passion. There are also aptitude and personality tests that will help you understand your gifts. Your college advisor can probably suggest so to you.

I've done research on types of psych such as clinical, counseling and forensic psych but I wanted to know if i had to choose one of those specifics my first year to major in or if when you major in psych you technically take classes on all of it? I don't know how it works at all. I do like those three types but I don't want to commit to one just yet. I'm also not sure what route I would take as in get a PhD or Psy.d (I believe one has more to do with medicine but i don't remember which currently) or just maybe get a BS or BA (not sure what is better to have or if it doesn't matter) and maybe teach psych somewhere in high school or college (not sure if to teach in college is harder to achieve or even different). Money is also a factor for me so I don't know how I would afford the time it takes to get a PhD etc. and I'm scared of racking up lots of debt. But overall I just need to be educated more so I can see which colleges I should apply to get it together for college so im not just undecided. Any help would be appreciated!

  • In your own opinion what are the worst and best majors to get a bachelors degree in?

Just for my curiosity. And best doesnt necessarily mean best payed, i understand engineering majors get you great paying jobs but i know from friends that it sucks in class. So how ever you portray the question.

My passport only has the middle initial, R, and else. the only legal doc that has my full middle name is my birth certificate and my social security. my college admission for one of my schools is asking for my full legal name - including my middle name in full. i don’t have my middle name on my school records, and i only used “R” for my middle name for my ACT score and AP exam scores, so using my full middle name wouldn’t even match my ACT scores, which can cause an issue. don’t ask why i’m so adamant against using my middle name, i know it’s “just a name!” but i don’t care, i’m more worried with it matching everything else i sublit. can i get away with just using my middle initial even though they ask for my full name?

Otherwise add a note to your paper saying that it was written to the best of your ability at a time of ill-health, and as a result may lack the usual clarity.

  • Can I go far in life with just a bachelors degree?? Or would I need to go higher than that?

Best answer: In which field? What are your career goals, aims? For some things, you obviously need advanced degrees. For others, many can do very well with a good liberal arts background, talents, and diligence, thus excelling in their field.

  • Is it harder to be accepted in an out of state college rather than one in your state?

I really do want to be accepted by an out of state college. I used to live in California but I recently moved out of the state. For college I either want to go back to my home state or somewhere else other than the state I'm in now. My only concern is if it's harder to go to a college out of state!
