Best answer: 2 Peter 2:1 sums up my thoughts on Harold Camping, and his kind. "But there were false prophets also among the people, even as there shall be false teachers among you, who privily shall bring in damnable heresies, even denying the Lord that bought them, and bring upon themselves swift destruction." False prophets do not live for long once they have been exposed. Those who make false prophecies obviously have not read their Bibles.

Best answer: Define "discovered." If you mean uncovered it for the world to see and know about, no. The sense of "discovery" that we hear used in reference to the Americas doesn't just mean finding it. It means revealing it. In that sense, the Spanish are credited with discovering the Americas.

About 10,000 years before Christ, ancient people from Asia are thought to have crossed over the present-day Bering Straits between Russia and Alaska when sea levels were lower and a land bridge was there instead. They weren't Chinese, however. China didn't exist yet. They were Asian. They became Native Americans. It wasn't really a discovery because they didn't go back and tell anyone about it, not to such effect that the peoples of Asia and Europe and Africa and throughout the world knew about the Americas.

Chinese explorers are not known to have sailed to the Americas or to have been engaging in any kind of trade or colonization of the Americas prior to the arrival of Columbus.

  • Why are there still creationists?

Not trying to be rude, but religion has been debunked a billion times, while evolution has never even been flawed. Stop denying science and facts for the sake of having an excuse to hate everyone.

Best answer: I think even the bible says that nobody can understand God, I call the eternal universe God, because energy cannot be created or destroyed, it only changes form, and I think it just goes in an endless cycle, because a cause would have to be explained, for a beginning, and what cause is there to give? A singularity just decided to start expanding for no reason at all? Even if it was caused by some entity inside it, what could that entity know, with nothing there to know anything about? It's pointless to rely on what some particular men wrote down about how it works, because much of what they wrote down has been proven to not be literally true, much of what they used to believe like the earth was flat and the center of the universe has been proven wrong, evolution has been proven, etc. I don't think we have free will, I think we are a product of genetics and environment, which is why I don't hold anything against anyone too much, I don't think revenge is fair, although people need to learn from their crimes, or be killed, so they don't continue to do the same. Thing is, it's quite often easy to trace the reasons why they became a criminal from their life.

Best answer: We did. Human beings. The gods are projections of human hopes and fears, and our first attempt at trying to explain things we could not understand.

Imagine a small tribe of ancient hunter-gatherers, huddled around their campfire one clear starlit night. They have just eaten the day's catch, posted sentries, and are preparing to retire into their tents for the night. One of them is looking up at the stars.

"Those lights up there--what are they?" he wonders aloud.

After a few minutes of silence, another one ventures a guess. "They must be campfires, like ours."

They had all seen campfires in the distance at night, and indeed, that's the closest thing they can think of. What else can they be?

"But how can that be? We all know that anything in we throw in the sky falls down--always," another one objected.

They all muttered for a few minutes, and then another one says: "Those people in the sky must have GREAT powers!"

Thus gods were created--out of the imaginations of men who could not explain things they observe. Very quickly, the slickest and most clever among them became very adept in "interpreting" what these magical beings in the sky expected, and anything people couldn't explain was attributed to some magical being--the stars, the sun, earthquakes, and religion was born, and evolved over time.

Anthropologists can trace the evolution and development of our modern beliefs in God--Yahweh, El, at one time, Yahweh was just one of many gods the ancient Hebrews worshiped. You can even find traces of polytheism in the OT.
