• Why do people recommend wearing long sleeves and pants when the mosquitoes, ticks, red bugs (aka chiggers), are out?

I was stationed with a guy who came down with Lime Disease. He went from a very active basketball player that spent 2hrs a day at the hoops to a guy who could barely leave his room. He ended up getting a medical discharge.

It only takes one mistake in the wild to ruing your life. A wrong turn, a bear, a fall, or even a tiny bite. Do the smart thing.

  • Maine Law: Can I Shoot at night time? (With proper NVGs, and aiming devices, at a shooting range)?

I got NVGs, with laser designator. Want to do some night shoots. The range is open 24/7, and have gotten permission from the rod & gun club which own the range....No one really knew if this is legal.

They get paid boat loads of money to sit on their butts all day and disrespect our flag. I think it’s time to put blacks to work.

  • Which handgun should I get a 44 Auto mag or a 475 Wildey Magnum?

Best answer: The .44 would be a lot cheaper to feed (comparatively) than the 475 for sure. I don't know what issues anyone has had with handling on the Automag... easiest shooting .44 there is. I don't know what issues anyone has had with handling on the Automag... easiest shooting .44 there is. OK, it is a BIG pistol, not small-hand friendly, so that could be an issue for some. If you can get a grip on it, it is like no other .44 out there. Nothing at all like shooting a S&W 29 or Ruger Redhawk.

I can't compare it to the 475 in handling, I've never had my hands one, let alone shot it.

I am 19 years old, and ran track and played baseball in high school, and I have a job that keeps me active since then. I have a few days off in a row next week and I'm planning to go to the Indiana Dunes National Shoreline for a couple of days, for some fishing and hiking. I have tried to find people who want to go with me, but it's in the middle of the week and nobody does. So I'm going it alone. When I told my gf I was going to be hiking alone, she said it was dangerous and I needed someone to go with me. I don't know what she's thinking I'm doing. the hiking is on a 3 1/2 mile hiking trail, rated as easy to moderate, on hard packed dirt, wood chips, concrete boardwalks, and two bridges. A side excursion will take me along a 1/10th of a mile swinging bridge. I'm not exactly sure what a swinging bridge is, but it sounds fun. I don't know if she thinks I'm mountain climbing or what. But it's a marked trail with at least two public restrooms along the way, though it is a 2 hour hike and I might have to go off trail to take care of some personal business... She said she saw a movie where a guy went hiking alone and had to cut off his own foot and drink his own urine. I don't know what movie that was but I doubt he was on a marked trail at a national park that was had a few moderate hiking areas and a loop that could be taken in 2 hours. It would be great to have a buddy going along, but I can do this by myself. It's not like I'm skinny dipping with sharks.

Best answer: Whoa, a true 1915 Savage in 32 caliber; there were less than 4000 of these ever made and their price ranges from $1400 to $2100 depending on condition. Light strikes of the firing pin does occur in this model. With the design of this pistols trigger assembly misfires happen for three reasons. First there is build up, debris, carbon ect inside the hole where the firing pin fits between the breech plug and the slide. Typically this is on the shoulder in front of the spring. Second is that the firing pin is worn down from firing modern ammunition in it. You have to remember that when these were made the ammo in 1905 to 1910 was not of the same quality or had the same powder characteristics that modern ammo has. I can't remember if the 1917 model firing pin fits them or not. Somewhere I've got an old book on Savage Pistols by Brower, it may have that answer in it.
And third is the ammo itself, this pistol won't deliver a heavy hit to the primer like a modern pistol will. I've had pistols from that era come to me and the chief complaint is that it won't shoot. Yes there is a strike mark on the primer but the pistol just can't detonate the newer primers because they have a higher tensile strength to the metal their made of. Changing the springs out with newer ones on some pistols can fix that BUT, you'll not find any factory springs for a 1915. You'd need to find spring kits and work with it until you find ones that will work. Or your going to need to find a smith who has a machinist that works with him.
If I remember right there is a part called a firing pin pivot pin or hinge pin. that piece can wear too along with the area it fits into and cause light strikes on the 1917. You may have to have that checked as well, if it's worn then you have to have it drilled one size up and a new pin made.
The only place I ever saw parts for a 1915 was on MIGA out of Georgia and I don't think their still in business, I don't know who would have bought that inventory either.
