  • Selling Advertising space on the side of my own home?

Best answer: You would have to check with a local zoning office and homeowners' association, if there is one. If it is zoned residential, you may not be able to erect a billboard.

Best answer: Unless you own the business...the customer is always right.

    Even when they are wrong.

This is because the owner of the business does not want any negative stuff being said about the business.

Having once been a business owner myself...customers can be really unreasonable, rude, and sometimes totally flakey. But sometimes treating them as if they are right will keep them spending money.

My best example is - A customer bought a $3.00 box of staples. Got home , opened them and they were the wrong size. He put them back in the packaging and returned them with a receipt. There was a store policy of not accepting returns on opened items. The sales person knew this and refused the return. The customer explained that he accidentally grabbed the wrong package and he had put them back in the package and had the receipt. He only wanted to exchange them.

I walked in to a heated argument between the sales person and the customer over the stupid staples. This customer spent several hundred dollars a month in that shop...and he knew people in the neighborhood.

So...even though it was against posted store policy...he was right. he got his exchange and I fired the sales person because I knew he would not come back with that person there...and he would tell his business associates...and the shop could potentially lose more than $1,000 a month in business.

So the customer was wrong. But he was right.

However ...on occasion I have had to ask a customer to leave and never come back.

....which is why I got out of retail 30 years ago....

I ask because I notice that seems to be the theme nowadays. Possibly has been for years and I'm just now paying attention. I notice when I'm in a store they'll play the same ad over and over. For instance, a special they were running in produce or the bakery. The same commercials over and over. By that I mean I've seen the same commercial 2 or 3 days during ONE commercial break. I've even seen em back to back. Or like your seat belt light and buzzer in your car. Or how you get the same offers for credit constantly. Do they think people will be like, you know what, screw it. Let me see what this is all about? I know they're paying more for the repetitiveness so I guess my main question is, is it fruitful for them? Are they really making more money off of it? I mean does the repetition ingrain it in people's heads? Reason I ask is because it does absolutely nothing for me. It actually turns me off if anything. It's annoying as hell.
