Best answer: The actual process differs but essentially a tutor-led session will begin with you setting up your equipment and grabbing a space, you may be seated with boards or, better IMO, standing at an easel.

The tutor will then introduce the model and explain the structure of the session, often starting with a few very short poses (anything from 1-5 minutes) which is to help you warm up, the tutor may say that this is not supposed to produce amazing drawings just a chance to indicate the position of the model in as few lines as possible – draw a main spine line down to the foot which has the most weight on it, then add lines to indicate the other limbs, maybe an oval for the head.

Once you have warmed up you will begin doing longer poses, the tutor may comment on the model's pose to give you some indication where you could be concentrating, you should then start drawing, spend some time getting the basic positions in a basic form then begin adding the detail. During this time the tutor may circulate offering advice or doing some demonstrations.

There are some exercises they may suggest, for example, drawing without looking at the paper, just concentrate on the model; squinting at the model to see where the darkest areas are and draw them as blocks; break down the figure to a series of spirals, tubes or dots etc., etc. Or how to measure and compare proportions using a pencil at arm's length.

The idea is that you draw what you see, not what you know – and that can be difficult to get over. Do not stress over it, you should be relaxed, everyone is there for the same purpose after all.

  • Covering up black permanent marker from the white part of an American Flag.?

My boyfriend has a giant American flag hanging up in his living room. I like it a lot, and a lot of Marines he served with who gave their lives have signed the flag. However his ex girlfriend had signed it, and it wouldn’t be a big deal if she didn’t write a bunch of love stuff along with it. However, he has asked me to move in and one of my conditions was to cover up only her writing on the flag. I tried an oil based white sharpie and it didn’t work, her writing bled through the white; and he tried covering it up with white duck tape which also didn’t work because the tape didn’t stick to the flag as planned. I want it to look nice and not be very noticeable that something was covered up. Once it’s covered up, I was planning on paying to get the whole flag preserved in some way, so it’s really important to both of us that it still look nice. Any ideas?

I drew this drawing as a wedding gift for a stripper I used to make love with. Do you think she will like it?

She was the one who created me into who I am today after my divorce and I owe her so much gratitude so I figured a nice wedding gift drawing would be nice

  • I want to do art commissions but have no idea how to do them?

Best answer: You would set those terms with the client. If you were working digitally then a file might be acceptable, but for "traditional" art I would expect (and probably most clients) to receive the original.
