Then if need be mix in a spray bottle 3 parts water 1 part vinegar and 1/2 a teaspoon of dish soap. Spray it on the mattress lightly and then use a cloth to wipe it down. Make sure you're not soaking the mattress but only making it lightly damp you don't want the moisture to go into the mattress and mold.

Other helpful products to consider is febreeze or other oder absorbing sprays. You may find a good fabric furniture cleaner as well.

I’m returning from my two week California vacation. Upon leaving I left the apartment I’m renting at 52 degrees. I walked in the door today to hear waterfalls sounding like it’s coming from everywhere. The 1st floor bathroom was bursting water and flooding the entire bathroom and hallway. I go downstairs to the basement to discover the basement is even worse, there’s the same gushing water coming from somewhere else. I couldn’t tell exactly where the water was exactly coming from but it seems like walls and pipes. I called my uncle over to turn off the water to the house immediately afraid to call the landlord right away as I look at the extensive damage, his home and a lot of my belongings as well. I don’t understand how this could’ve happened with the thermostat set on 52 degrees even in negative degree temperatures. I would like to know tomorrow morning when I call my landlord, what am I facing. Who is responsible for the damages and charges. I have included a photo section of my lease where If i’m Understanding correctly, I’m will end up paying the cost. Please give me some advice. Thank you

This will plug into the wall in the playroom. His plan is to use reed switches and magnets. put the magnets in the pieces and they will activate the closed reed switch. He wants to link 8 of them together to complete the circuit, so there will be 8 pieces to put in place. He wants to have the switches (which look like little tubes) in the box and a magnet in the piece. Will this work? Is he going to burn down the house? Any suggestions?

So I just moved into my new house. It has central (electric/heat pump) heat but, living in Florida, I decided to use a space heater instead since it is obviously cheaper to run and the weather doesn t get cold enough to actually require central heating. I ve been plugging it in in my bedroom for the past few weeks ever since it got cold with no problem, however tonight I decided to try using it in the living room. I plugged it into one of them socket controlled outlets (designed for a lamp to be plugged in and controlled with the wall switch). About 20 minutes after turning it on it went off, the rocker style switch no longer presses correctly, what happened? Did I fry the switch, the outlet, both? Cant get the outlet to work, can t get the switch to properly go in and out. Do I need to replace the switch? Is there honestly a wattage limit on this outlet simply because its controlled by a wall switch?

  • What is considered "normal" wear and tear on a room rental and can I hold back a cleaning fee from the security deposit?

On the other hand, I have heard terrible stories of homeowners going into a rental to clean up between tenants only to find garbage strewn on the floor, feces and urine in places you don't expect, broken cabinets and light fixtures, holes in the drywall, and so on.

I'd say this was just a bachelor who tries to do a basic cleaning job. His parents may never have taught him how to remove the toilet seat to get at crud around it, or get in the shower with a scrubber to remove soap scum build-up. I don't think it would qualify as an excessive mess that would warrant any of the security deposit for damages.

  • Should I let my daughter redo her room?

Best answer: It depends on what you mean by redo it. If you are just deciding to change the color and put a fresh coat of paint on the walls, I don't see a problem with that. It's relatively inexpensive and mainly costs time, which at that age she should be capable of handling a brush or roller and helping out.

However, if we are talking about replacing all the bedding, the furniture, and possibly getting new art for the walls, that's something that can cost a pretty penny and it's not something I'd want my kids deciding they want to do every 2-3 years.

I can almost read between the lines of your question when you say this is the last time she will do this... We know that statement is not true. Because the needs of a 12-13 year old will certainly change once they reach age 16-17. Her teen idols will change. She may become more interested in causes. She may have a new BF or BFF that does not like the room she chose as a pre-teen. Or she may just want something that's more adult than what she picked.

Figure out what the costs would be to redo the room. Better yet, have her do the math. Explain what materials will be needed so she can see how expensive the changes she wants will be. And make that cost hit home. Parents are not always made of money and it's important that be demonstrated by making any changes also affect her, such as costing her in chores or allowance.
