If it were me, I would take 200 in cash and the rest on a loadable debit card that can be used over seas. You will need to ask the debit card company BEFORE buying, as some cards can only be used in the country they're purchased in.

I could withdraw more cash or use in shops. Use the card and save the cash for those times a shop does not take Visa or Master Card debit. The great thing about a card that you can reload with more money, on is that you can do that online, so you never lose much if the card is stolen/lost, so no reason to have over $100 on the card.

Today a German waiter insisted that a tip “wasn’t included” in the check. This is my fourth day in Germany and no other waiter said anything. Is there something new, or is he playing a semantic game trying to get more money out of me? I used to be a waiter and bus boy so I want to do the right thing, but I don’t want to get ripped off.
