Easy, now. I read all of this, but didn't see anything about how your computer is now reacting. Is it acting fine now? If so, it is fine.

    Some definitions....

"computer virus" = application that will attach to an OS file and make changes to the OS.

"malware" = any software that is bad or that you hate. I hate Chinese bitter melon, so maybe it is malware.

As of today, no true virus has been found in the wild that can install itself and alter OS X installed files. That's because any change to the basic OS X files requires that you type an admin password each time a change is attempted.

An infection of OS X that can capture information typed and send that to a remote computer server is possible. Although the OS is not changed, information is gathered. That can be a disaster, even if the system continues to run perfectly smoothly. Your financial website login or email login password can be captured.

It seems what you saw was a re-direct: some link on a web page opened a scare-ware page unexpectedly. That does not mean your system is affected. It means that website is infected.

In general, as long as you do not download any app and launch it and as long as you did not type your admin password in response to some real or fake message, all is well. A common fake message is one claiming that you need to update Adobe Flash. Yes, Adobe does have an updater that will ask for this, but that has led hundreds of bad guys to distribute fake update messages to get your password. Just say "NO" to any Adobe message, and go to www.adobe.com to install the latest Flash Player plugin.

If you want to be sure, get Avira (free at 1st link below), install it, and run a quick scan (minutes) or a full scan (hours). Avira can even find and isolate Windows malware that could be hosted by (but not affecting) OS X.

ON THE OTHER HAND, if you really are seeing repeat pop-up ads, click on the 2nd link below and get started removing adware. This process is complicated, because adware developers are ever-updating their infection methods. It is a benign infection, nonetheless, because the OS X files are not changed, and adware is not a virus – it never wants you to have trouble using the computer or prevent your seeing the ads.

Best answer: There are two ways to remove files.
If you simply use the delete option the files are marked deleted and the parts of the hard drive where they were located are available to be written with new files. However until this area gets overwritten with new files the old files can be recovered using freely available software.
Internet history is contained in (index.Dat) hidden files in older systems, not sure about windows 8 or 10. You can erase the contents with a cmd. or software but it will continue recording new history.
'Wiping' a file means you overwrite the file you want removed immediately.
A free program called Eraser will Wipe files/folders and if you need to put something else in the folder/file you just Wiped you can choose a file to replace it with.
In the case of forensics searching through a device, suspicion is aroused when they see an area of the hard drive freshly Wiped so this program allows you to choose another file to place where the old stuff was.

It wouldn t let me click out of the page, this block kept popping up that said "cannot be found" so I cleared my entire history and cookies or whatever. I went to settings and cleared the entire thing. I have no idea why it would say I need to pay a fine?? FOR WHAT?? It was regular old porn! It was a site I never went on. Maybe that s why?? But omg, is it like on my phone and stuff???? Like what will happen?? I m so scared!!
