  • If I come from the same Scottish clan as someone, are we related?

Best answer: Even if you are both genuinely members of the same clan (and as others have said, much of the whole modern "Scottish clan" business is a fantasy), there is not necessarily any blood relationship. In the days when clans were a real thing, anyone could join a clan by swearing allegiance to the chief. Clan chiefs weren't fussy about a fighting man's pedigree; they all wanted as much loyal muscle as they could get. Everyone knew that the idea that everyone in the clan was ultimately descended from a single legendary hero was really a fantasy, purely a symbolic idea of clanship.

(And even if you really do share an ancestor back in the 16th or 17th century, you are probably no closer relatives to each other than you are to half the population of Scotland. It just wouldn't be significant.)

  • Need to know if my DNA ancestry results show any Gypsy heritage.?

Best answer: No - it won't show that sort of detail.
Gypsies come from various parts of mainly Eastern Europe - your DNA could show that much - but not that there's any Romany descent.

  • Is there any way to cross match ancestors by searching for them?

For Example, I have about 1600 ancestors on my tree and I want to know how I am related to George Washington or Abraham Lincoln. Are there any algorithm's that can be used on Ancestry.com that I can use to simply put their names in and see if they can be found without me digging through every ancestor?

  • Why is it so hard for black people to research their genealogy?

I recently took the ancestry dna test and discovered that I had three or four second cousins that I didn't even know about! besides slavery and not being listed as citizens why can't African Americans find out more information about our genealogy?

  • I want to do one of those DNA ethnicity tests with ancestory but it’s cheaper with MyHeritage. Which one should I do?

Also before handing over your hard-earned cash check with each company and see what kind of results they provide I mean companies do things different ways maybe one shows demographics and the other one doesn't one might show more and one might show less of their findings they might test for less things or more things so find out what each of the company's results consist of and also I would ask who the hell I will have access to this information as well that's something that deeply bothers me.

You can't tell ancestry from appearance, beyond broad racial groupings, unless the person in question is from an ethnic group that usually marries within itself. I suspect there are coffee shop wait-staff in South Africa that can tell Boer from English and half a dozen tribes of black people, and greet them all in the proper language. People in Europe have intermarried for centuries. I asked our waitress in a Mexican restaurant how she knew when to use Spanish and when to use English. She said you could tell from looks, except the Assyrians threw her off. (We have quite the colony of them here, and they like carne asada burritos as well as the next person.)

  • I did 23andMe. How do I know if the results are true or just a game like having my palms reaed?

Best answer: Well, you could send in an animal DNA and see what results come back.

They use different markers for animals and humans so if you sent in a dog dna and ask for a human genotype gets, you should get wild type results for every marker tested.

  • What is a Iberian ? Is it a tribe in Spain ?

Best answer: Yes, Iberia is modern-day Spain and Portugal. Like most people, you are a mix of origin points, and further proof that skin color does not define you.
