If the common "Nobody" aired all their dirty laundry just like celebrities, would you still be interested?
What is so exciting about who these people are sleeping with or cheating on?I think most of it's just for publicity. These people are just as screwed up as the rest of us.What's the pull?

I don't know that celebrities air their dirty laundry so much as the media digs it out and inspects it publically, but I do agree that it really isn't very interesting. I can't imagine a headline like, "Local electrician leaves wife for younger woman!"

I completely agree....who really cares. But unfortunately, most of America doesn't agree with us. That's why shows like "Big Brother", "Survivor", "MTV Road Rules", and other shows about "the common nobody" are so popular. Then there are shows like "The Surreal Life" dusting out the dirty laundry of hasbeen stars.
And,
It's not just on television! We live in a HOA community and we have more "Gladis Cravitz" (from Bewitched") neighbors that we can deal with. I think people are so involved in other peoples lives because they either don't have lives of their own, or their lives aren't what they wish they were.
Unfortunately, as long as the media promotes it, and the consumer consumes it.....we're out of luck.

I'm not interested in celebrity or nobody gossip.
But, judging by the plethora of shows where nobodies do this (all the "Judge Whoever" shows and the talk shows with the "slept with girlfriend's grandmother" captions), I guess a LOT of people are.
What stuns me is why so many people are willing to go on these shows.
My theory for the popularity of gossip is that when we lived in groups where everyone knew everyone, knowing who is sleeping with, and therefore aligned with, whom was useful information. (Don't diss the leader's latest chick.)
That and the left-over Puritanism -- all that trash sort of turns people on.
And people emotionally invest in "celebrities." Many are jealous of them, and so like to learn their lives are full of gunk.

I am usually not interested in what they or others do. Rarely will some gossip pique my interest. However, once in a while, (Bill Clinton scandal being an example) I do become a little interested in something. Most people do. It's human nature. But not often. I have a life of my own.

What do you mean "just as screwed up as the rest of us/" they have got to be ten times as much. Why do you think they take so much drugs, and although they are priveleged with all their riches, manage to get into so much trouble?
