Sounds like you have a good start but you may also need some hand tools for fine tuning like a wood rasp and plane. You should have a steel square, level, and some clamps. These are the minimum of tools I have used to construct furniture. There are many options for joining edges that might call for different tools. You should check out some books designed for home projects. The older books offer interesting ideas to customize furniture for your space and they are far better designs than I see on the market.
