Is it illegal to beat a snake to death?

Someone posted on their Snapchat then beating a snake to death and I think it's totally wrong. But I don't think it's illegal because I think it was just a native snake or just any snake you can see in the woods.

Should I report them?

If they were beating it just to hurt it or something like that, it's animal cruelty and illegal.

If they had to do it to protect themselves or their animals (or they reasonably though they had to for those reasons), it probably wouldn't be.

Killing an animal, for meat, safety, etc., and torturing an animal isn't the same thing. If this person just did it to enjoy or show off hurting a snake, it was cruel and wrong and likely illegal.

If you mean reporting it to the website to be taken down (rather than reporting it to the legal system), many websites are stricter about videos of animal harm than just "is this illegal". I'd definitely report it to the website, but who knows if they'll do anything.

Any snake on the red list is much illegal, otherwise no.
Really pointless and no need for it.
I did have to kill one good size diamondback rattler that came into the back area of the house, shop sort but direct access to the house. Hiding under some equipment, mad and aggressive, very stubborn to hooking.
Never killed any other snake, even watch for them cutting the grass and put them out of harms way.

In some states it is and others it isn't. In California, a person got sued for animal cruelty pulling the wings off of a fly. Personally I find beating any creature to death to be repugnant. Those who do it have serial killer tendencies. Check the laws in your state and hope it is illegal.

To the person who killed a bat, you are a moron. Bats are awesome, and make amazing pets. Once tame, they are a lot like cats. They will play with string and like their bellies tickled. Uneducated inbred.

There was a bat in my house. I knocked it out with a broom and beat it to death with that broom because I didn't want it to get back up and fly around. That wasn't illegal. Neither is doing it to a snake.

If the snake wasn't attacking the person
the person may have done it to be cruel to the snake
and that is illegal
Often people who abuse animals also abuse people
