Seven of each. They were needed for eating and sacrifices.

If I remember correctly it was “seven pairs”- that would be fourteen.

After Noah finished building the ark, Jehovah told him: "Go, you and all your household, into the ark, because you are the one I have seen to be righteous before me among this generation. Of every clean beast you must take to yourself by sevens, the sire and its mate; and of every beast that is not clean just two, the sire and its mate." (Genesis 7:1, 2)

Seven pairs, male and female, of each kind. So 14 of each kind.

I trust you understand this is a story, and that taking it literally would be missing the point.

Seven each. Seven of each variety of bovine. Seven of each species of deer, elk, moose, etc. Seven of each species of clean bird. That boat must have been much bigger on the inside.

Two-by-two, just like the dirty ones.

The lower gangplank was getting way too crowded,

so the fire inspectors finally told Noah:

"It's either 2-by-2 ... or we seize the boat."

The Noah's ark story is absolute BS, Scientifically and physically impossible. Bring me a 600 year old man and I'll prove it.

"Of every clean beast thou shalt take to thee by sevens, the male and his female: and of beasts that are not clean by two, the male and his female" (Genesis 7:2).
