The repository of the English language is the Greater Oxford English dictionary.

Every word in the English language is in it.

However, if you want to purchase a dictionary then Chambers Twentieth Century dictionary or Collin's dictionary are very good dictionaries to have to hand.

There some 500,000 (half a million words in the English language, of which we only use on an everyday basis some 10,000 ( tenthousand) words.
