Tell me about your tattoos!?
I love hearing about other people's tattoos, and why they got what they did. Also, did any of your ink every have an effect on your job?
I have 10, spread across my arms, chest, and neck. Never had a problem with jobs, and I've done everything from retail, to restaurant management, running my own successful bakery, and now I'm a public school teacher.
Anon - Most of my tattoos are visible every day at work. Only the ones on my neck if I'm wearing long sleeves. And they have NEVER caused me a problem. And I've worked with clients in professional settings, and I'm a teacher now.

I got my first tattoo in 1976 while on active duty in the Navy, it is a small flower over my left breast, women rarely got tattoos back then which is one reason I got it and I wanted one, in 1983 I got my 2nd tattoo, while serving as a reservist in the Navy, it is a blue rose on my right shoulder. In 1986, I went with my boyfriend who was active duty coast guard, to a dance aboard the Queen Mary. He had me cover up my blue rose tattoo because women just didn't have tattoos! My how times have changed.

I have four. Two on each upper arm so hidden form view unless I wish them to be seen.
Three were done in Hong Kong one is my name in Cantonese done long before that became a bit passe, another is a Chinese dragon as I was born in the year of the dragon. The third is a Yin and Yang which I got to cover a massive BCG scar from childhood. The fourth is the Olympic games logo from Sydney Australia 2000 where I competed and worked.

I don't have any. YET. I've always wanted them, but been too chicken-sh*t to actually go through with it. Plus I didn't know what to get. Or had ideas that were far too ambitious for a first tattoo. Or wanted only certain artists, that do not live close to me, and are booked for freaking FOREVER. But... I think I'm finally ready to just suck it up and go through with it! AND..? I know what I want. I want an octopus on my right leg.
Reason for it..? Is: because my soulmate has one, (although a somewhat blurry, unfinished one), in the exact same spot as I would be getting it. And I wouldn't want it to be a copy of his. I want mine to be finished. And maybe slightly bigger and more elaborate. With more tentacles, and maybe a few other differences. It would be inspired by his, and kind of like the best friend / lover of his. ;)
Now, everyone keeps telling me that couples tattoos are a terrible idea. But here's what I think: first off, it won't include his name, or anything like that. And it would be good art, and a nice tattoo. To the point that, even if we broke up, I would still like the tattoo! And no one would immediately think: "couples tattoo!!" It would still work, as a standalone thing. And I'm sure I'd still love it, and have fond memories of getting it, and it being my first tattoo.
Secondly..? I just know, even if we did not work out, this is the kind of relationship that I would NEVER regret. He is THE loveliest person, and we've got THE best, deepest, most meaningful soul connection. In my almost 31 years on this planet, I have NEVER felt this way about another human being. Ever. And even if we had to break up, I would never regret having something that linked me to him, and reminded me of this beautiful, highly significant part of my life, that included him.
Third..? These are all just disclaimers and worst case scenarios, anyway. That will more than likely never come to fruition. Because we do NOT want to break up! We want to stay together until the end of f*cking time! And we love each other more than ANYTHING! So.. having something that links me to him. Physically, too. There's my reason, and just something I feel a need for. As a permanent reminder. Because while our soul connection is stronger than ever, and I love him so much, my f*cking heart could burst..? The sad fact of the matter is: we are physically divided by an Atlantic Ocean. At least for now. He is Canadian. I am Norwegian. And I just returned, from visiting him for a month. Best month EVER!! And he was even better than I imagined, somehow!! And one day, we WILL physically be together, too! On a permanent basis! It will just take work, and planning, and probably marriage and immigration, to get there! And in the meantime, while we are physically divided..? It would be pretty damn nice, and beautiful, and significant, for our bodies to be physically linked, by having similar tattoos. If you catch my drift..?
So there you go. Those are my reasons. I will indeed get it. Although I've got to find a good artist first. :)
