Depends.  if the airplane is parked, a train.  In flight, a train could still be faster if it's a Japanese bullet train versus say a Cessna 152.

As usual, a vague, poorly thought out question.

If you're comparing a Cessna to the TGV or the Japanese bullet train, the answer is the trains.

But in general most people think of commercial flight via jet airplanes as the faster form of travel.

There are plenty of aircraft with top speeds above 550 mph, including commercial passenger aircraft and military aircraft.

Long range trips are still obviously much faster by plane,

.while on relative short trips the train is the transport of choice.

Other countries have bullet trains that go 300 mph (480 kph), but in the US, most trains travel at speeds that most airplanes wouldn't get off the ground.

Depends on the train and the airplane.

Some trains are faster than some airplanes, but the top speed of most airplanes is faster than the top speed of most trains.
