Let X be the amount invested at 6%.  the amount invested at 9% is $3600 - X

    X * 0.06 + ($3600 - X) * 0.09 = $270.  X = $1800.  Y = $1800

You should be able to do the rest now.

    A financial services company invested

a person's IRA contribution of $3600 for one year at simple interest, yielding $270. Part of the money is invested at 6% and the rest at 9%.  How much was invested at each rate? Complete the following table, letting x = the number of dollars invested at 6% and y = the number of dollars invested at 9%.
