How should I resign from my job after being furloughed for six months?

I've been on furlough from my weekend job for six months now and I have no intention of coming back due to me going back to University next week. I intended on resigning once I knew when this period was ending as I was still getting paid throughout but I have been informed that this period ends this week. I want to make sure that I'm resigning in the nicest way possible despite the circumstances I am in.

    You don't need to resign.

If they ever call you to return, you decline.

Nice way? Just say you are going back to Uni. The government was paying your wages not your employer.

just don't go back. I doubt they expect to hear from you again.
