You CAN'T just quit the military.

First, a person can't just "quit" the US military. You can "desert", which means you just leave but that's a serious military crime in itself. You have to be legally discharged to leave.

In many cases the person can be called back to active duty and court-martialed. If they have been totally discharged, they can still be prosecuted in a US District Court as a civilian even if the crime occurred outside the US

If you commit a crime while on duty and getting a court martial they are not going to let you "quit"   until after the court martial is over.

    You don't "quit" the military.

and yes, if they find you guilty of a crime,  while you served, they  can still hold you accountable and cancel all benefits.

I doubt, very much, if they'd allow you to quit before the trial.

no such thing as court marshaled. do you mean court martialed?

then that would depend on if you were still in the inactive reserve or not, retired or not, an ocficer or not, all 3 can be recalled to active duty to be court martialed.

    Martial.

In the US, you can't just quit.  Even if you enlistment is supposed to end, they will place you on an admin hold and keep you around until your court martial.

oh, yes -- of course you can.  by the way, if you're under investigation by military justice already, you can't resign ... your resignation would not be accepted.
